Sub-Saharan Africa

'One Earth, One People Gardening project' supported by SCI's Gaia MicroGrant, Togo, West Africa (2015)

International voluntary projects are organised on a large scale in Sub-Saharan Africa. Currently there is one SCI branch in this region, located in Nigeria. Apart from Nigeria, SCI is cooperating with a great number of partner organisations in Sub Saharan Africa, for example in Botswana, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Senegal, Tanzania, Uganda and many other countries. If you are interested in voluntary projects in a specific country in Sub-Saharan Africa then please search our Online Database. You can also search for SCI partner organisations in Africa by using the worldmap. In Sub Saharan Africa there are possibilities to join workcamps, but also Long Term Voluntary projects.

Coming to Europe

There is a special mid term programme for volunteers from African countries to go on a mid-term voluntary exchange to Europe. This programme is organised by a few European SCI branches. Volunteers on this programme get the opportunity to participate in European workcamps, and join special trainings together with volunteers from Asia, Latin America, North Africa and the Middle East. For more information about this programme you can contact your local branch or partner organisation, or one of the regional working groups.

Africa Working Group

This is the working group responsible for the coordination, facilitation and promotion of international voluntary projects to and from Sub Saharan Africa. More information about the activities of this group you can find in the section Working Groups.
