SCI is looking for a Web Developer!

SCI is inviting tenders for the post of Freelance Web Developer.

SCI is looking for a Web Developer to support the work of the movement internationally through the extensions and development of several key projects. You would be responsible for effectively translating user stories into technical tasks, evaluating different options and ultimately choosing and implementing the most appropriate option. You will do this with the assistance of a long-term volunteer in the International Secretariat (IS) office, where you will also have the opportunity to guide and mentor this young person. Furthermore, you will be able to interact with a team of volunteers currently working on different tech projects. You will also work with the IS in order to establish deadlines, sometimes connected to larger funded projects.
Term: Part-time. 15 hours per week initially. (Timing of hours can be agreed).
Start date: As soon as possible 
Contract: 6 months, with 2 month probation period. Possibility for extensions depending on additional agreed tasks. 
Contract Tasks:
Extension of an internal Drupal project (SCI Members Area) according to the specifications provided by the team currently working on this project (proposed partial delivery March 2018)
Coordinating small or medium web projects involving the extension of actual tools or the implementation of new ones
Evaluation of requirements and their translation in technical tasks
Partial implementation of the code (php, html, css and related) for the implementation of the projects
Delivery deadlines for different tasks to be discussed

Location: Home based. 
Orientation: Orientation can be supported remotely, or if requested 2 days in the IS. Reasonable expenses will be covered by SCI. 
Equipment: You will need to use your own equipment. 
Reporting: You will report to the International Coordinator and cooperate with the current long-term tech volunteer at the IS, as well as remotely with the current tech team, and in general with IS staff. 
Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
Proven experience in implementing medium sized website and web application
Extensive knowledge of Drupal
Basic understanding of user interfaces
Ability to establish specifications and choose technical solutions to address the needs
Some knowledge of /experience in NGO sector
Experience in translating web projects for mobile-friendly use
Willingness and ability to mentor a junior developer
Recommended Skills:
Knowledge of Joomla
Experience in working with volunteers and/or coordinating a small team
This is a freelance position and you will be expected to adhere to the freelance working rules of your country with regards to registration and tax.
