SAVA working group and Velebit association of Kuterevo

From 20th until 25th of June SAVA WG and Velebit Association of Kuterevo organized a joined Training for Camp Coordinators in the Bear Refuge Kuterevo, gathering 20 young people who wanted to learn more about coordinating workcamps but also leading groups in other forms of group activities. What were then future camp coordinators were not only volunteers active in different SAVA organizations, but also EVS volunteers who are doing their short-term service in VAK – and who have the privilege of spending more than 6 days at this amazing place (which the rest of us envied them greatly)!

The activities took place in Kuterevo, village located in the Velebit mountain range, in the facilities of the Kuterevo Bear Refuge. The participants were hosted in a basic and eco-friendly accommodation, next to the volunteers’ station and the enclosures for the young bears. We all slept in a wooden house, where part of the activities were also organized.

The program of the training covered topics such as volunteering, group dynamics, intercultural learning, different leadership/coordination styles, conflict management, peace in workcamps, and eco-leadership (among others). The activities were mostly very interactive and participants got a chance to free their spirits and creativity and learn from each other in a very open and stimulative environment.

One of the participants in the training, Marilou, shared her experience with us in an article she wrote upon her return. She is currently in a workcamp in Serbia and we wish her a great time and the best of luck in putting in practice everything she learned during the training!
