Pledge for the Planet

That's it.

Today we've used as much from nature as our planet can renew in the whole year and it's only August.

We use more ecological resources and services than nature can regenerate through overfishing, overharvesting forests and emitting more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere than forests can sequester. We must take immediate action and help reverse the trend of overshooting our planet’s resources. At the International Secretariat of SCI, we are planning to take a pledge to keep our office meat free! We are already on a mostly veggie based diet, but our decision would mean to keep our office meals, snacks and staff meeting lunches all meat free.

Earth Overshoot Day 2016

The #pledgefortheplanet campaign has several pledges suggested for you to take part in. Ideas include hosting a vegetarian dinner party, lowering your household energy consumption and reducing your paper waste. Greenpeace has also set up a Say No to Plastic Pledge, to end plastic pollution in our oceans in the next few years. Want to support but don't know where to start? Here are 9 tips for living with less plastic. These may be things that you already do or you may be setting new challenges and pledges for yourself, your community or perhaps workplace, whatever you decide to do, take a photo and add it to the pledge map and share it with us in the comments below, on instagram, facebook or twitter.
