A variety of activities took place in Europe within the framework of the Create a Climate for Peace campaign. Many of these activities took place within the project 'Nonviolence Needs Nature – Let’s face the challenge! Climate Justice, Participation and Inclusion: 2014 with SCI', a project co-financed by the European Youth Foundation. The project was part of the Create a Climate for Peace (C4P) campaign of SCI in 2014 and was implemented mainly by the following branches and partners: VKU Croatia, Gaia Kosovo, SCI Italy, SCI Austria, SCI Germany, VSI Ireland, VCV Serbia, IAL Sweden. The SCI International Secretariat had a coordinating role, together with the campaign coordination team.

Aims

Raising awareness about climate change and climate justice, permaculture, peace and social inclusion and empowerment of youngsters with fewer opportunities, including roma, refugees and asylum seekers who are living in Europe. The project´s main regional focus was Europe. The other project in the Create a Climate for Peace campaign for 2014 was a global project that was implemented in 4 different continents.

Activities

1. Prep Meeting

Non Violence Needs Nature started with a prep meeting that gathered all the main partners and took place in Kuterevo, Croatia, at the Bears Refuge.

2. Training

The meeting was followed by the Youth Leader Training, that took place in April in Rome (Italy) at La Citta’ dell’Utopia. See some of the pictures of the training here!

3. Workcamps

After these two initial events 3 ideal Climate for Peace (C4P) workcamps were organised. These workcamps functioned as pilot initiatives to stimulate branches and partners to realize more sustainable and inclusive volunteering projects. The ideal C4P workcamps took place in Sweden, Ireland and Kosovo.

Besides the ideal workcamps there were many other branches that took the possibility to join the campaign in 2014, the full list of C4P workcamps can be found here >>

4. Evaluation meeting and visibility event

In October an evaluation meeting was organised in Turkey, while the final visibility event will took place in Serbia in December.

A Climate for Peace Toolkit "How to organize Sustainable Workcamps" was created within the framework of the Create a Climate for Peace Campaign, under which SCI ran two projects in 2014.

  1. Nonviolence Needs Nature – Let’s face the challenge! Climate Justice, Participation and Inclusion: 2014 with SCI
