Call for participants: European Youth Event and Yo!Fest 2020

You can download a pdf version of the call here.

SCI is taking part in one of the most exciting European events for young people, organized by the European Youth Forum and the European Parliament!

The European Youth Event (EYE) will take place in the European Parliament seat in Strasbourg (France) from 29-30 May 2020. It is a unique opportunity for thousands of young people to make their voices heard. At the same time, right outside the Parliament, the Yo!Fest will be taking place, with workshops, concerts and food trucks!

Following the event, the ideas, concerns, and hopes from young people are presented in a report distributed to all Members of the European Parliament (MEPs).

SCI can give the opportunity to 20 young people to participate in the event: you will have the chance to contribute with your skills and ideas as well as to learn from other young people and organisations present!

The events

The European Youth Event is organised by and in the European Parliament. During two days, participants will have the opportunity to take part in a variety of activities and experience artistic performances, co-created with partners, youth organisations and participants themselves. Expect also to meet many inspiring speakers, decision-makers, experts, activists and influencers.

The tagline for this edition of the EYE is: The Future is Now.

The activities proposed will come in a variety of formats:

  • GetInspired - Discover a new passion or dig deep into a subject
  • GetToSpeakUp - Shape your recommendations for decision makers
  • GetItDone - Turn your bold idea into a concrete action plan
  • GetConnected - Get together and network with other participants, speakers and decision makers
  • GetSkilled - Learn or train new skills
  • GetArtistic - Attend performances and take part in artistic activities
  • GetMoving - Move and do some sports
  • GetInstitutional - Get to know the European Parliament in a new way

The Yo!Fest is organised by the European Youth Forum, the platform of youth organisations in Europe. Participants can expect music, fun, and interactive activities along the following formats:

  • The Library: this is a space for learning about topics of your interest.
  • The Social club: here you can debate a topic, exchange views, discuss with other people.
  • The Workshop: in this space you will receive actionable skills and tools.
  • The Lab: here you will be guided and supported to create an action plan to put your ideas into action.

SCI, as one of the partners of the Yo!Fest, will run a workshop in “the Workshop” hub. In this workshop, we will work with methods introduced in the Diverse Communities - visual methods cards.

Are you interested to take part?

Applications are open to all young people under the age of 30. Successful applicants may be asked to help run the activities proposed by SCI and contribute to the follow up activities (e.g. write an article, make a presentation, etc.).

When and where?

Interested participants are required to arrive in Strasbourg (France) the 28th May and leave the 31st May, so they can be present for the whole event. The event itself is the 29-30th of May, with activities taking place on both days between 9am and 6pm (plus an informal evening program).

How much?

The event itself is free!

SCI has a guaranteed financial contribution from the European Parliament. This contribution covers the following costs of up to 20 young people*:

  • Accommodation from Thursday 28/5 till Sunday 31/5 (3 nights, Sunday is the departure day) in a Friends of Nature’s house in Strasbourg.
  • Contribution to the travel expenses: approximately 4.5 cents per kilometer from your home address to the event venue (based on the most direct return road route). Please note the calculation is made based on an average distance between the EP and the places of residence of all participants in the group. Group members living less than 200km from Strasbourg will not receive a travel subsidy!
  • 40 Euro food budget per person.

Any costs that exceed this contribution will be sustained by participants.

* Specific conditions of the financial contribution

  • Only for young people from 16 to 30 years old who are nationals and residents of an EU member state or a candidate country (Albania, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, Turkey)
  • All participants must take part in at least 1 EYE indoor activity

Note: SCI wants to give equal opportunity to all young Europeans. That is why we would like to ask participants who qualify for the financial contribution to consider a voluntary contribution to a “solidarity pot”.

Travel reimbursements are made after the event. Travel purchases are made by and at the expense of participants. To get the full reimbursement back we advise you to look for the cheapest, greenest travel route.
