Welcome Ika!

We would like to welcome Ika, from Indonesia. She is going to work with us from Greece on the Peers to Peace project and supporting SCI Hellas with local activities. Read more about her in this short interview.

Hello Ika, how did you find this volunteering position with SCI and what motivated you to apply?

I've found out about this volunteering position from the mailing list of IVP Indonesia and I applied for it. It interested me because the description of working scoop in the project is pretty close with what I did in my last job, so I think I can contribute a lot. Since the position is in Greece, I’ll be able to cooperate in an International environment, which also makes this position more challenging for me. I'd like to gain new experiences and immerse myself in a completely new environment for my personal development.

Do you have previous volunteering experience and did you know SCI before?

I've been involved in International Voluntary Service since 2009 when I join IIWC workcamp. Then I gradually learned about CCIVS and SCI International. I became an active volunteer in IIWC and led several workcamps ever since. In 2012 I went to Finland to join the Building Bridges project of KVT Finland. I was there for 3 months and I did workshops in 8 cities to support mutual understanding between Finnish people and refugees. Later  I met Wilbert Helsloot from IVP Indonesia, when he held a voluntary activity program in the refugee center in Jakarta. That is how I become member of IVP Indonesia, doing volunteering again, taking part in some sharing sessions and now - here I am in Greece!

Do you have any expectations for life in Greece that you would like to share with us?

I know Greece from its' well known history and the beauty of its islands so while I am here I would like to discover the historical sites in Athens. I would  also like to visit some of the beautiful islands here like Santorini, Greta and Mykonos. I would like to get in touch with Greek people, join some events and exhibitions and I really want to learn Greek!
